Discontinuation of EUR₮
In a significant shift, Tether has decided to discontinue support for the Euro-backed stablecoin EUR₮. This decision comes after careful evaluation of economic and market conditions, as well as evolving regulatory frameworks in Europe. Tether ceased minting EUR₮ with the last acquisition request processed in 2022, and new issuance requests are no longer being accepted.
This strategic move aligns with Tether’s broader objectives to navigate the complex regulatory landscapes surrounding stablecoins, prioritizing initiatives that offer greater stability and protection for users. The company has emphasized that until a more favorable regulatory framework is established, it will focus its resources elsewhere.
Focus on New Ventures
As part of its strategic shift, Tether is channeling efforts into new ventures, such as the launch of MiCAR-compliant stablecoins in collaboration with Quantoz Payments. These new stablecoins, EURQ and USDQ, will leverage Tether’s advanced technology solution, “Hadron by Tether.” This platform is designed to streamline the issuance and management of stablecoins, offering robust tools for compliance and blockchain interactions.
Hadron by Tether aims to simplify and accelerate the tokenization process for a wide range of assets, including stocks, bonds, and loyalty points, thus expanding the possibilities within the digital financial ecosystem.
Future Outlook
Through these strategic initiatives, Tether is not only introducing new financial tools but also redefining the boundaries of financial technology. The company’s vision includes empowering communities globally by providing the tools necessary to thrive in the evolving digital economy. Tether’s innovations are intended to unlock new pathways for economic empowerment and broaden financial access.
Current holders of EUR₮ are advised to redeem their holdings within one year, with the deadline set for November 27, 2025. Tether assures its customers of continued support and invites them to reach out for assistance if needed.
Tether’s strategic transition reflects its dedication to creating a sustainable and democratized financial system, paving the way for future innovations in the stablecoin market.
